Why Hair Care Also Strengthens My Self-Worth

My name is Anja. I am a relationship coach, make-up artist, wife, mother, and so much more. How I feel in these roles always depends very strongly on my self-worth – and I strengthen that by taking good care of myself.

Today, my hair care is an integral part of this self-care.

But that was not always the case.

As a child, I hated my curls. While all the girls around me had straight hair, I was the only one with curls – and I often just felt "different." So, for years, I consistently blow-dried my hair straight. A turning point was the anniversary party of my former tennis club; I was about 15 years old. For the first time, I properly scrunched my curls – back then with drugstore products – and suddenly realized how much potential my hair structure actually held. That was the start of my curl journey.

In 2018, I started to delve deeper into the topic. In various Facebook groups, I learned about the Curly Girl Method and experimented with a few things. I began to engage more with my natural hair structure – exciting, but also very time-consuming and somewhat overwhelming.

My role as a mother also changed my perspective on self-care. Especially in the first years after the birth, much of my focus revolved around my child – and little around myself. But at some point, I realized how much good it did me when I consciously took time for myself. Whether it's during make-up application, skincare, or with my hair – these moments belong only to me and give me new energy.
